A new thing from Necrosoft and Junkboy

Postby [NG] brandon » Mon Aug 10, 2015 9:53 pm

We're making more things! Surprise! This is what a certain part of one of those things looks like. It's a pre-production prototype, so there are no guarantees the thing will get finished, but right now it's totally playable.

This game is being done in collaboration with Junkboy and Einsbern, and is gonna be a pretty cool thing we think. We also have a cool musician working on it, but that's secret for now.

What is this game!? We'll let you speculate, because we don't want to reveal the real deal until we're 100% sure we can make it! Honk honk!

Looks pretty fresh!! Reminds me of Twilight Syndrome or SMT. I hope it's not just a Japanese high-school game, though. Did you ever play Gunparade March on ps1?? That had some cool mech stuff on a high school backdrop.

I haven't played Gunparade March, but I've watched videos! I avoided a lot of the anime license games in that era because they tended to be mediocre, but these days I see a lot of them tried to do some interesting things. I like the almost-xcom-ishness of it!

I think if we made anything with "just" in its descriptor we'd have to hang up our collective hats and go home and never come out again.

This looks really cool! I actually had the exact same thoughts about Twilight Syndrome. Love love those sprite-based horror games, and from the mockup, this certainly has the style to compete.

I'm trying to think of other things it could be before I get myself too hyped up, though. Maybe, a teaching game where you try to teach some delinquent banchou kids math? Actually, wait, that could be pretty cool too.

ha ha I'd play that too. It'd wind up just being GTO, but GTO is fun.

at first glance this makes me think of the first(and my personal favorite) Persona. i really like this! the style is unexpected, so i'd be grasping to guess what exactly it is, but i'm intrigued.

if we ever make two games that look alike, I guess we'll have to throw ourselves a certain kind of party, because we're pushing in a bunch of different directions!

Hmmm... There are four students and one "teacher." One of the desks has a book and three chairs around it. Maybe it's a "Breakfast Club" type situation or tutoring. Why is the "teacher" drawing a monster? Speculation is fun.

Oooh, fun speculation! that guy doodling is actually a student also, though. I wanted a teacher in this scenario, but he has yet to make one!

The following quote is from the Dropsy thread...

[NG] brandon wrote:With that game we teased a couple weeks back, I was really tempted to just ask Shane to prototype some ideas I had instead of actually doing the work to paper prototype - but it turned out I could totally prototype most of what I wanted to figure out (the single player battle system primarily) using paper.

"Single player..."

Does this imply multiplayer?

"...battle system..."

It has a battle system!
